Looking after someone with mental health needs can be tough, especially when the future feels uncertain. There is help available and you don’t have do it all on your own. The Citizens Advice Bureau is here to support you with trusted guidance, referrals and services designed to make the road ahead feel less uncertain.

Planning
Planning ahead can ease stress and give both you and the person you’re caring for a stronger sense of security. We help Carers take practical steps to get the right plans in place.
We can support you with:
• drafting or understanding key documents like Enduring Power of Guardianship, Enduring Power of Attorney, Wills, and Administration Orders,
• connecting you to low-cost legal advice and mediation services,
•referrals to Carers WA, who help develop emergency care plans, advocate for your needs, and offer planning tools to prepare for unexpected situations,
• referrals for Avivo, which provides in-home supports, respite services, and flexible planning options for carers in mental health or disability.

With CAB’s support, you don’t have to have face future planning alone.

Stay Connected
Caring for someone with mental health challenges can take an emotional toll. It’s important to stay connected to services, to other Carers, and to people who understand what you’re going through.
We can connect you with organisations like:
• Carer Gateway, which offers free counselling, respite services, peer support, and coaching for Carers across all stages,
• Carers WA, who also deliver Carer Gateway in WA, and provide in person support groups, Carer retreats, job-readiness program, and advocacy services,
• MIFWA (Mental Illness Fellowship of WA) – offering relaxed Carer, group education sessions, and peer-led support groups designed for people looking after someone with mental illness,
• helping Minds, which provides specialized counselling, family programs, and workshops for both adult and youth carers in the mental health space,
• open arms – Veterans and Families counselling, supporting carers of veterans with confidential counselling and mental health tools.

Whether you’re looking for emotional support or a place to talk, we will get you connected.
